The Fernandez Hospital Educational and Research Foundation, established in 1999, provides educational opportunities for the underprivileged, focusing on Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Neonatology, Midwifery, and related fields. With a mission to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity and to improve patient care, the Foundation educates doctors, nurses, technicians, and students. The Foundation engages in collaborative research with several universities and national and global partners.

Knowledge and skill augmentation of medical and paramedical personnel via educational and research activities. Provision of access to education for the deserving and those who can’t afford it.
To enable and promote educational and research activities for doctors, nurses, midwives, and school and college students through academic sessions, workshops, conferences, etc.

Dr Evita Fernandez (FRCOG) is an obstetrician and the chairperson of the Fernandez Foundation, Hyderabad. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London. She strongly believes in the need to empower women to make choices, especially with regard to issues surrounding birth. Dr Evita is a champion of natural birthing and midwifery in India. She has spearheaded the country’s first Professional Midwifery Education and Training (PMET) Programme. Her PROfessional MIdwifery Services (PROMISE) campaign is committed to create a national cadre of professional midwives, who are vital to the care of low-risk pregnant women. In a career spanning three decades, Dr Evita has been at the forefront of maternal and child care in India
Managing Trustee
Dr Nuzhat Aziz, a senior Consultant, Heads the Obstetric Department for Fernandez Hospital. She has extensive experience with pregnancy related issues and developed a special interest/expertise in the management of the Labour Ward and Delivery Suite. She has gained wide experience in pregnancies complicated by medical disorders and termed “high risk pregnancies”. These include diabetes, thyroid malfunction, hypertension and other organs. She has presented over 25 papers, and has numerous publications and awards to her credit. She is a much sought after speaker and faculty at both national/international conferences.. Her “hands-on” workshops for clinicians are very popular across the country. She is associated with Fernandez for more than 16 yrs and handles expectant mothers with dedication and compassion. She is available at both Hyderguda (Unit 2) and Stork Home (Unit 5) hospitals for consultation.

Dr B.R. Shamanna completed his medical education from Karnatak Medical College, Hubli, and his MD in Community Medicine from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He also holds a double Diplomate of the National Board in Maternal & Child Health as well as Social & Preventive Medicine. He completed his M.Sc. from University College London with distinction in Community Eye Health.. He served as a Senior Research Officer in the International Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD), a WHO-PAMMUNICEF Organization and later as a Senior Resident & Medical Officer, Primary Health Centre in Haryana. Dr. Shamanna has been closely associated with the development and implementation of activities of two large WHO Collaborating Centres for Prevention of Blindness in India, first with the Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology of the Aravind Eye Care System in Madurai and with the International Centre for Advancement of Rural Eye Care of the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. He is a visiting faculty to the Masters in Public Health Eyecare at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine as is a Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the School of Visual Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He is a Visiting Professor to the Manipal University, India and an Adjunct Faculty with the Public Health Foundation of India. His interests are Health & Welfare economics, Disability Inclusive Development, Education and teaching methods and Alternative opinions and Politics in Health Care.

Co-founder and director of Institute of Public Health, Devadasan started his career as a community health doctor in the forests of Nilgiris. He worked with the Adivasis of Gudalur for 10 years, building a comprehensive health system for them. Since then, he has worked with WHO Orissa and then with the WHO country office in Delhi as the NPO in-charge of communicable disease cluster and specialising in disease surveillance. In 2005, he founded IPH, Bengaluru and has been working closely in the area of health financing, access to health care and health systems management. He has completed his MPH and PhD from the famous Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp, Belgium. He has headed many research projects, including two large multi-country projects and is the author of many articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is also an adjunct faculty and teaches health financing at the masters level.

Dr Ann Campos completed her MD in Anaesthesia from JJ Hospital, Mumbai. She then advanced her career at Tata Memorial Hospital and KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where she rose to the level of Associate Professor. Subsequently, she moved to Bangalore and briefly worked at St. John's Medical College before settling in Hyderabad. For over 15 years, Dr Campos has been an integral part of the critical care team at KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad, specializing in Neurosurgical and Surgical Critical Care. She is committed to ethical patient management, ensuring transparency about the benefits and limitations of various treatment options, and guiding families to make informed decisions for their loved ones in intensive care. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr Campos has mentored numerous students in thesis work and research projects. She has also led hospital infection control efforts and contributed to committees focused on patient safety.
