Prenatal genetic testing plays a role in detecting a genetic disorder or birth defect in the fetus, and helps in the management of pregnancy to improve the outcome of the newborn.

Postnatal genetic testing helps to confirm the diagnosis, forecast the prognosis, and formulate the management of a child with genetic disorder.
