Workshop 2: Growth Assessment Protocol

Date: September 13th, 2024

Time: 2 pm to 5 pm

Presenters: Dr Jason Gardosi and Emily Butler (Perinatal Institute UK)

Duration: 3 hours (Afternoon Session)

Format: Lecture-type Programme

Facilitators: Dr Pallavi Chandra , Dr Sailaja Devi K

This interactive workshop will be hosted by Emily Butler, a specialist midwife and
Prof Jason Gardosi, director of the Perinatal Institute, UK.

Programme Outline

  •   Fetal growth surveillance- background and evidence
  •  Fundal height measurements – using a standardised approach
  •  Clinical application – risk assessment, care pathways, chart generation, referral
  •  Routine data collection and reporting:  referral and detection rates of SGA
  •  Missed case audits – lessons learnt using GAP SCORE
  •  Implementation & change management – tools to assist local implementation.

Gestation Related Optimal Weight (GROW) app is a software to create customised centile charts, and birth centiles and audit the SGA detection rate. GROW 2.0 is a fully electronic version with risk assessment, auto-plotting of SFH and EFW, and the ability to calculate growth velocity and identify abnormal fetal growth. Added features include twin fetal weight plotting and calculating discordance, auditing, an app for mothers to view their own chart, and auditing tools.

GROW 2.0 has been rolled out to all NHS hospitals participating in the GAP Programme, and the fully electronic software is used in over half a million pregnancies across the UK each year. Early results are already showing that implementation has increased the detection and timely delivery of at-risk babies, with a significant decline in stillbirth rates.
